I am a loc’d out gangsta AND a set trippin’ banger.
And my homies is down, so don”t arouse my anger.
Fool.
Anyway, so i got a couple more fish. By a couple I mean eight.
I went to the pet store that”s near my house because the owner told me that they were getting a shipment this weekend with a bunch of zebra danios
Wait, I should go back.
A couple of months ago the old lady at Pet Smart told me that a red tailed black shark would be totally cool with all of my other fish (mollys, platties and tetras and one big ass angel fish). She said that she”s had aquariums for years and never had any trouble with sharks, and that she”s had a few of them. So I bought one. Well, it turns out that she was full of crap (or at least wrong about the one I bought) because that shark is a complete douche bag. He constantly chased and bullied the other fish, particularly a little black molly who ended up pretty beat up and constantly hiding behind the heater, living in fear of the shark.
Looking at that link that I used to identify the shark, it says right on it “It is a semi-aggressive, territorial fish that doen”t like other fish of its own species. Not the best addition to a community tank unless tank is very large.” I guess I should have researched instead of trusting stupid pet store people.
Anyway, I knew something had to be done. I didn”t want to like, KILL the shark but I didn”t want to let him keep beating up my other fish. Especially since the Black Molly was there first. So I went on a quest to find a cheap second tank to house him in. That quest was futile, and after a few days I ended up buying a not-as-cheap (I had budgeted 30 bucks for myself) ten gallon tank to keep him in. That ended up costing about 60 bucks.
But it was worth it. I guess. I mean, sixty bucks to protect one three dollar black molly seems kind of silly, but I”m a sucker for pets and their happiness. Besides, it”ll work out pretty good if I ever want to get like, some frogs or something, I”ll have this ten gallon tank to put them in. When I get my big tank for christmas, I”ll move the shark into that with the rest of the fish. With more room to stretch out and more “teritories” to establish, he should be alright.
Anyway, back to the zebra danios. So yeah, the guy at the pet store near my house said that they were getting a shipment of those guys in. I was looking for some fish to put in with the shark that wouldn”t put up with any of his bullshit. I felt bad for him in there all by himself. Plus I didn”t want to believe that I bought an entire aquarium strictly to serve as a shark jail. I figure that if I can get some other, stronger fish to go in there with him, then it will be that I”m simply a guy with two tanks rather than a guy who spent a shitload of money to make a fish penetentury.
The guy at the petstore (a small local one rather than the Pet Smart where I bought the shark) suggested the danios because they”re a little tougher than some of the other small fish, that the shark wouldn”t feel threatened by them because they”re so much smaller, so he wouldn”t feel the need to boss them out of his “territory” and also because they school together that the shark would be bossing a bunch of fish rather than just one. Also, they”re fast little buggers.
So I went in today to buy a few of these danios. The owner wasn”t there, but Don, the guy I usually talk to WAS there and he said that the danios never showed up in the shipment. Well shit. I asked him if he had any suggestions as to another fish that might be comparible to the danios in their toughness and schooling ability and size and he suggested some barbs, like tiger barbs. The only problem with that is that those bastards are like, five bucks each, and I didn”t want to spend thirty bucks buying a school of barbs. So I was like fuck it and I called Pet Smart. THEY had zebra danios, AND They had them for fifty cents each. I was like “SCORE!” so I cruised out to petsmart and bought six of those bastards. I also bought two sunburst platies. Wait, I don”t think they are sunburst platties… they”re some kind of platies anyway. Whatever.
When i was opening the bag to let the danios into the tank, one of them accidently got stuck in the bag and I didn”t realize it. He fell out of the back and onto the end table that I keep the 10gallon tank on. I was about to walk away when I noticed him flopping around. I had to scoop him up and move him back into the tank. I was totally choked that I almost let him die there without even realizing it. That would have sucked ass.
Anyway, so here are a couple of pictures. Rock on.
This is Walter, my big ass Angel Fish. I can”t wait to get the big tank, if only because this poor son of a bitch is too big for my 25 gallon. He grew much faster and much larger than I expected. He”s by far my favorite though.
This is the troublesome shark in question in his new 10 gallon pad. He hid in this rock when I showed up with the camera. Like most bullies, he turns into a complete pussy when someone bigger comes along.
And this is the newly liberated Black Molly. Within a few days of the shark being out of the community tank, she was out and about and totally not hiding anymore. That made me happy.
